03 dodge belt squeeks when i turn motor off?

last week i replaced by serpentine belt and now when i go to shut it off it makes a loud embarrassing squeek ive checked everything all looks good would it be i need to replace my self adjusting tensioner???

IIRC this can be as simple as the belt stopping before the motor has completely stopped. Or vice versa...It shouldn't hurt anything.

ThisisDC 02-11-2012 07:28 PM

that is perfectly normal. my truck does it whenever it shuts off too. its because when you shut your truck off, everything that is rotating(crank, pistons, alternator, fan) Everything stops instantly because of the ammount of compresion the engine makes. do not worry about it, its normal

I believe Genos has a one way clutched pulley you install on your alternator. I do miss that trademark Cummins belt chirp.

torqctd 02-11-2012 08:44 PM

I believe a Goodyear Gatorback belt will cure your chirp.

A few seconds of WD-40 while running makes it go away for a little while.

sthrnrider 02-12-2012 12:19 AM

My 01 has does it from day I bought it. My 06 doesn't do it.

00' Quad Cab 02-12-2012 12:48 PM

My 2000 has done it since the day I bought it(on it's 3rd belt now), I believe what happens is the engine shuts down instantly(like stated above) and the fan has some momentum built up and can't stop that quick.:humm:

Changing to a GoodYear Gatorback Belt WILL cure it. cured it on my 01, cured it on a friends 04, and on another friends 06.

sthrnrider 02-13-2012 08:59 AM

I like it kind miss it on my 06

solarwarp 02-13-2012 09:24 AM

My 07 5.9 does it, I think ... but isn't it only when the AC compressor is on? Using the defroster or AC?

Kainedogg 02-13-2012 10:01 AM

My '05 3500 does it as well, even after a new belt. Scares my kid...hilarious. :c:

1st_gen_puller 02-13-2012 01:52 PM

dmaxkiller 03-01-2012 03:20 PM

my 04 doesnt do it but my 94 and my 97 did it... like stated above its just the engine having good compression and things stopping before others can stop perfectly normal

tiremann9669 03-01-2012 04:49 PM

jesslaney09 07-25-2012 07:15 PM

Typical dodge
Mine does it sometimes :tu

sillyneck 07-25-2012 08:47 PM

hahaha my first 04.5 did it for 30k then not at all for 100k more. sold it.

06 never did it.

latest 04.5 6spd doesn't

Everyone else I know with a 3rd gen 5.9 has it. I tell them their injector pump is going out. hilarious. :) as stated there's nothing wrong.

12 valve and proud 09-01-2012 09:22 PM

My 1st gen 12 valve squeaks every time and it's 235k miles. Just the nature of the beast.

tanda603 09-17-2018 03:39 PM

does any one have the part number for this belt 04.5 cummins with air?

Cp3 01-25-2020 11:54 PM

My truck started doing it when I change to the gates green heavy duty belt, also I was told by a smog/mechanic technician ( he owns a Dodge) that it could be because you shut the engine off right away, we are supposed to let the engine cool down, that way the turbo bearings don't get cooked by hot oil staying there. I started doing that and in decrease the chirping considerably, however is still does it a little bit. I think it is just the belt. If it bothers you change the tensioner and the belt
