support bearing replaced and still having problems
I had a loud popping noise while driving at around 50 or so mph from what sounded like the drive shaft. checked the u-joints and they were good. Ended up replacing the center support bearing as it was going bad. Figured it would fix the problem. Just test drove the truck and can still hear a ruff noise while the truck is going around 15-20, as well at the popping sound while driving 50.
Anyone have any idea what else could be wrong? i appreciate any help. thanks |
Is the Popping noise constant, intermitent, or occasional? "Rough noise" kinda open to interpretation. Any vibration issues? Clarify if possible. Sound travels very well through metal. :humm:

the popping is consistant everytime i get up to 50-60, but i havent continued to drive that speed to find out. no real apparent vibration issues. the truck is lifted and on some knobby tires so no more vibration than normal. and the rough noise is hard to describe almost like bearings rubbing on each other or metal on meatl grinding

Sorry vinnie, I have more questions I just thought of as I read your reply. Im still trying to figure it out.
1. Is your truck 4x4? tire size? stock gears? 2. Possibly a front wheel bearing? Check for play. 3. trans temps within limits? maybe a failing trans. check fluid for burnt smell, check trans pan for metal particles/ chunks. Torque converter issues..... 4. Rear gears or bearings possibly wearing/worn. last diff lube change? 5. How many miles on your truck? Tough one for sure. I didnt see a signature on your thread. Might help to see what kind of goodies youve bombed your truck with. |
its 4x4 with 8inch lift with 38/15.50/18. truck is stock just got it not to long ago. its got 99500 on it. trans temp not to sure about but it does it with or with out being fully heated up. and as far as the diff lube change not sure. Was actually about to change with the oil this weekend

A possible failing trans and/or torque converter comes to mind. Might even be a failing or failed flex plate. I didnt ask, but Im assuming you have an auto trans?
If manual trans, I would lean towards possible clutch, throwout bearing issues. :humm: Im hoping someone who has experienced this sort of thing chimes in. This, of course, is just off the top of my head though. Hope this helps. |
Front wheel bearings, check them quick or the wheel falls off.
|
That would be a memorable experience. :scare2: Hope its an easy fix though. Sorry if I wasnt much help!

Hey vinnie, is there any way you can post a sound clip of the noise youre experiencing? If possible that is..........
Im still stumped. |
Where is the noise coming from? Is it a long arm lift?
|
thanks for all your input. I trouble shot a few things and it ended up being my tranfer case. Ended up needing a new one
