Oh boy.. where do i start?

Hi guys, I'm trying to do some research to help out my brother.. he left for an 8month deployment back in July, when he left he let someone borrow his truck, well.. shortly after that, it started having a Hard-Start issue.. and then it disappeared.. After some drama, I got ahold of it for some damage control, Too late.. ?

It has been driven 5k miles on a flashing check engine light.. It does not start without ether, I heard that's TERRIBLE on the engine.. so i haven't even started it..
Me and my brother have talked (email) and we have narrowed it down to possibly be the injectors, or CP3..

I have called a diesel performance shop here in town (source automotive) and they seem to have a reasonable diagnoses price ($90/hr)

Currently the mods (that are known) are as follows
-BD Twins
-afe Intake
-4" Exh
-Edge juice w/attitude
-Fass 90gph Liftpump

the truck has 91k on it now.. we have NO clue if the injectors are aftermarket, or stock.. the truck was bought at a used car dealership, with no records..

Some questions i have are,

He would like to upgrade the injectors and do a Dual CP3 setup.. I know these are not cheap parts.. what seems to be the preferred route you guys go?

Should I order parts and take them to a performance shop to be used.. or just get their advice off products they offer?

and yes.. I am well aware the costs.. :s:

You would get better results if you post it in the DODGE section:tu:

Do you have any fuel pressure gauges in it? What is the rail pressure at when it does start? Also test your injectors.
