Need some info on the stock turbo, engine and trans?

I recently bought a 05' dodge cummins 2500, 6speed, quad cab, short bed. And i was just curious about the specs and some more insight on the turbo, motor and the trans. Like the amount of boost the stock turbo can handle. Some power rating for the engine and the trans. also. Also share some of your storys of your 3rd gen. The reason im asking, I know nothing about the CR's. Im a 12valve guy myself.:c:

325 hp/ 600 ft torq. Boost, personally seen 45# max on last one. Generally can handle a wee bit more sustained, but @ your own risk. Turbo is a HE351, electronically controlled waste gate.
My 1st 3rd gen: 03 CA spec (235 hp) 2wd auto. 203,000 1 owner when I bought it. 14 months later: 231,000 mi. Traded it :argh:. Anyway, replaced lift pump, RF hub and kept it serviced. Had Edge J/A, driveway mod to exhaust (kept muffler) & air box. NOT the fastest (15.6 in 1/4), but would hold its own most of the time and a lot of fun.
Current: in sig. Just turned 62,000. So far, got a BD w/ CL (arguably, used, best bang for $$) and boost fooler (eliminates setting a CEL in high boost conditions). Rest is stock and just enjoying for now..:humm:
You'll see the bigger power potential over you 12v as well..

Thats one of the things i first noticed, is the power difference. Is that bad having a electric wastegate? Whats that BD w/CL? And when you say a boost fooler is that like a boost elbow? Also what is a typical fuel milage range? The reason im asking bc this gets around 19mpg thats with a 2.5" lift and 315x70x17r with the kelly sahra (spelling) its a very aggressive tire

Not bad having electronic waste gate, just a different way of controlling boost.
Boost fooler, unlike the elbow, does not affect the boost made. It alters what the ECM "sees'" Plugs in line at the MAP sensor. Stops the ECM setting a CEL due to boost. Couple of different makers out there, I went w/ Quadzilla. Most programmers used will need one. Most modules, ex:Edge, do not (already built in the programming).
BD w/ CL= Bully Dog Triple Dog w/ Crazy Larry tune. Triple Dog and Power Pup both have: stock, tow (40'ish hp), performance (90'ish hp), extreme (120'ish hp). Triple Dogs only, have the option of putting a "Larry" tune in place of extreme. Some came from BD w/ Crazy Larry. The "Larry" tunes, (Crazy, Scary, Pedafile, Senator, the ones I can recall) are available to down load on line, free :tu:. Larry tunes are in the 150'ish + hp range :U:. I can say according to my seat-o-pants-meter..:woot:
A lot of variables effect fuel mileage. If your in the 19 range, calculated by hand, IMO your in real good shape.

Thanks for the info. How much is a set up like that, the BD w/CL? Also how are the heads? Bc u know on a 12v they were very sensitive about blowing a headgasket? How much power can the head take?

mykaos 10-09-2011 10:09 AM

Used BDTD w/ CL can be found for $200-$250. Generally the head gaskets on the CRs' will handle well up into the 500hp range w/ no issues. "Sustained" high boost #'s (40 # +) you should start looking at head studs or @ the least over torquing stock head bolts. Sustained high EGTs' will do a bit of damage to the heads them selves. Get you self some gauges.

Im gonna try to get a set of the auto-meter NV gauges!!:rocking:k

Sweeeet

usmc0311 10-11-2011 03:50 PM

Also what kinda transmission does it have? G56 right? Also, can you transfer clutches from a NV5600?

mykaos 10-13-2011 10:28 PM

Now your asking me something I have no clue :nope:. Hopefully a standard trans expert can help out here :humm:...
