G56 noise!

I built a 2005 crew cab dually.

It has a 1998 12v and a g56 out of a 2006.

The tranny makes a sound while accelerating, idling, and the best way to describe it is "soda cans rattling"

Help!!! I already put a new clutch and a throw out bearing in!

double disk clutch??

If ids a DD or solid flywheel then its going to make some form of noise. I just ordered gorilla juice from lazarsmith to help quet it down. I'l report back if it helps.

cuthbert97 09-26-2011 11:15 AM

No it's a single disk, stock clutch.

What clutch did you use to mate the 12V to the g56? Solid flywheel or Dual Mass?

cuthbert97 09-26-2011 06:27 PM

I used the solid one that goes with the 12v.

I custom ordered a 12" clutch disk to mate with the g56.

K80 09-27-2011 06:16 AM

Ok. That solid is probably whats making the noise. G56's had a dual mass flywheel to dampen transmission noises. When you had the trans out, did the input have any side-side movement?

cuthbert97 09-27-2011 07:04 AM

Not that I could remember. It only had 70k on the trans.

Well I guesss I'll be pulling the Fu$&er out and putting something else in.

4500 or 6500

Before you do that. Get in touch with lazarsmith. They are the G56 gurus. I put their gorilla juice in last night and it really shut the trans up. Shifts great too. It smells like gear lube and has the consistency of a 75W about. But if your mainshaft is "wallowing", do like everyone else and run it till it blows.
