2005 ram 2500 cummins in need of help!!

I have a customer that came into the shop with a 2005 Ram. When it did run it ran badly and smoked a bit. He came out one morning last week and it would not start. I advised him to start with a filter. After replacing the fuel filter, he got it started, still was not running normal. He decided to drive it to me to look at it. On his way to the shop it died idling down at a stop sign. We brought it in and replaced the injection pump because we were not getting any rail pressure. Now we have just over 900 psi on the pressure sensor, but still no fire. 12,000 miles ago the dealership replaced 4 injectors with remanufactured ones after having all 6 tested and they steam cleaned the fuel tank and installed a new supply pump. I seem to have good fuel flow from filter to injection pump, but no way to check it accurately at this time. Has anyone dealt with any issues similar to this one? i am in desperate need of some advice.

Check the priming pump, my truck have almost the same thing. I replaced my original pump for a AirDog 150 (500$ for the kiton Ebay) and now it run like new. The original pump is not good enough for the cummins, if you look on other post you can found other information. Good luck!!

I am having problems with fuel pressure on mine as well. My rail pressure at idle is fluctuating from 6.6ksi and 14.4ksi which is 6,600psi and 14,400psi. The CP3 pump produces between 4,600psi and 23,000psi of pressure. My rig is a 2007 so I am not sure if there is a pump pressure difference. I think my fuel pressure relief valve is bad but at $260 I am trying to make damn sure that's the problem with mine.

The lift pump should send no more that 15lbs of pressure to the CP3. I am running an AirDog Raptor pump that does the job well. All the big pressure is delivered by the CP3. If you are only showing 900psi at the sensor then the truck will never run. Recheck it. Maybe the reading is 900ksi and not psi.

I figured it out, along with a bad injector pump we had a bad injector. Does anyone know if you can remove the injectors with out the miller 9010 tool?

Yes you can. Just pull staight up and work it slowly. Make sure the copper washer stays on the nozzle.

AWESOME!! Was not looking forward to spending another $200.00 in tools for this one pick up. The injector line caps are a must have for any fuel related issue on these things though. Should have bought them 10 days sooner!!
