Towing engine temps.?
is a sustained 215 degree engine temp. on uphill grades while towing a little on the warm side for my cummins, or do you guys see these temps. on these hot summer days.

I've been seeing the same issue. Just had my transmission serviced (auto) & it seems to have dropped a couple degrees. It's time to flush the cooling system too, that'll probably help get a couple more points. Curious to see what others have to say. I don't like getting over 200, that seems to be normal. What's your EGT running?
|
That's normal and when you start down the hill it will drop back to 200!

im towing about 9000 pounds. egts are at about 1100 to 1150 when engine temps are about 215. I dont like seeing her go over 200 either.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- kind of wondering if its fan clutch time, she has 143,000 miles, i dont know how long these fan clutche last. |
Higher engine temp just gets more power out of the fuel charge. As long it is 220 or under its generally not a problem.
If your reading the cluster gauges its probably not accurate anyway, and, depending on where you read the temp in the block it will vary. |
