Mileage doesnt seem right??

Hey guys my mileage just doesnt seem right, everyone else gets way better mileage, my truck is a 04.5 2500 4 door short box 6 speed that is leveled and sits on 35'' goodyear duratracs, truck also has an edge juice with attitude, K&N cold air intake and a MBRP 5'' exhaust with cat and muffler, odometer reads 113k miles. I get about 14.5 mpg around town and 16.5 on the highway and i see my buddys 06 dually 6 speed get 24-26 mpg highway and 23 around town. basically i am wondering what is making my truck get so much less?
Thanks.

Tires, tuning or heavy foot. What setting do you have the edge on, how fast do you drive and how quickly do you accelerate?

ive run the juice on every setting and that doesnt effect it to much and I usually keep the rpms under 2k and i rarley take the truck over 65-70 mph

Ever run additive to clean things up? What about your lift pump? is it stock or do you have an upgrade? When was the fuel filter changed last? Valve lash will hurt your mileage some. Adjustment is recommended at 150k, but people say you should do it earlier. The only other thing I can think of is cleaning the air filter if it is dirty. You are driving it economically so your mileage should be much better. Is this hand calculated or the computer in the truck and did you adjust the speedo for the larger tires?

its defiantly the tires that are killing your mileage you have alot to get rolling on 35s and think how wide they are compared to your friends truck thats a ton of rolling resistance

no additives, recently bought the truck so not sure about the fuel filter, stock lift pump, and ya Im thinking of getting a set of stock tires and seeing the difference.

Get rid of the cat and muffler. see if that helps?

Try the stock tires, but check the fuel filter and pressure first. If the previous owner rarely or never changed it; you'll be cleaning out the bowl for a while. I had tons of crap in the 99. Dude probably never changed it. If you can the exhaust deletes mentioned above are a good idea. I'd bee interested to see if the tires make that much of a difference so let me know if you try them.

ya I will let ya know, and Im in the great sate of California haha so the exhaust deletion isnt such a good idea although i might say screw it and do it anyways

You just have to be careful how you do it. Here in PA if it looks like everything is there you are good, but I know CA has stricter emissions.
