BAND adjustment

So I talked too a guy at aamco transmission about how too adjust the bands in my 2005 dodge quad cab 4x4.He wasn't real helpful he said they have a tool to measure the bands to see if they need adjusted!! I cant say I have ever heard of such a tool ! To make a long story short he gave me no info unless I wanted too pay $200.00 for a tranny service and band adjustment does this sound high priced or am I just being cheap??? I change the fluid and filter myself once a year !! I think I can do it myself just need more info on how to do it!! any help would be appreciated!! Jeff kahle!!

front band adjustment located left side of trans just behind bell housing, loosen locnut tighten screw to 72 in lbs its a torx.then back off 1 and 3/4 turns helps to mark screw to count turns out, then tighten screw
low reverse band, you have to drop pan.its in left rear area.loosen locknut, tighten screw to 72 in lbs and then back off turns and tighten locknut.its also a torx screw.good luck not a hard job.front band can be a little bit of a pain in the butt if memory serves me well i believe trans lines are right there.

How do I know if my transmission needs this or not? I've noticed once in a while the transmission tries to figure out if it wants 2nd or 3rd gear when I'm feathering the throttle. Is that a sign?

Might be time for a new governor pressure solenoid, but prolly nothing to do with band adjustment.

There's a school of thought regarding band adjustment in the Chrysler transmission community for the 727-based models of which all similar models up to and including the 48RE are included, that advises against band adjustment at any time other than during factory assembly. I don't know the technical reasons for that and have done this procedure myself several times on different trannies with no ill effect and no noticeable benefit either, so not sure what if any advice I'm giving here is any good. :w2:

The part about AAMCO trying to sell unnecessary expensive service is the best advice in this thread so far, IMHO.
