Fuel Endurance
what kind of total miles are you getting off of a stock tank?
I got 619 out of the last one with an ultra light foot and no towing. |
Summer fuel, unloaded, cruise control, HWY I'll see just about 1200 km per tank. Stock 135 L tank in a 2002 Long Box. I just worked that out and it is 745 mi.
In the winter or stop and go driving or hard on the foot and it drops purdy quickly. |
always heard you mechanical guys were stingy
|
Mechanical? My truck is not a 12V mechanical, it is a 24V ISB. Yours is an ISBE. If yours is geared right and you use the power right you can do it as well.
|
shows what I know about the older trucks. Didn't the pre CR 24v engines have an inline mechanical injection pump with electronic controls?
my foot is too heavy to get that kind of endurance. |
Nope. 1998 was the last 12V with the mechanical pump. 1998.5 was the first year of the 24V ISB motor. 2002 was the last which is what I have.
2003 was the first year of the ISBE which is what you have. Ask Dr. Evil if I drive like his Granny, he'll say yes and then I'll pass him with black smoke on his windows... LOL... When I do that of course my economy goes way down. |
don't want to argue, but be educated. I don't deal with alot of the Cummins line.
This description from Geno's sure reads like an advanced mechanical injection. " The VP44 injection pump uses a set of mechanical plungers to pressurize the fuel, and a mechanical distributor to route the fuel to the correct injector. An electronic controller converts the fuel information sent from the ECU into mechanical control of the fuel delivery by opening and closing fuel spill ports inside the pump mechanism. The pump returns information to the ECU regarding its current operating state." The injectors sound like they are old school mechanical. Not full electronic or units like Cat. The pump isn't a true mechan/electric like some of my marine engines with electronic control of the governor and old school plungers and rack. please enlighten me.... |
I see your point BUT it is not a mechanical pump. It is computer controlled.
