Front end garbage
My 05 dodge dually only has 57k miles on it and I am currently putting ujoints in the front end and ball joints top and bottom both sides in it.:argh: What in the world would cause them to wear so quickly?
Do you have a big lift or large tires? I would think that could strain the parts.
My 01 upper fell out, my 04 were bad, and both were stock. Gota love Dodged front ends.

Its all stock as far as suspension goes. I traded my 01 cummins in on this one and I never once had a lick of trouble out of its front end. I reckon its just one of them things.
its very common on the 03-up dodges to eat u-joints, ball joints, tie-rod ends, and wheel bearings, its not un-reasonable to replace them every 60-100k miles:pca1:
i have replaced axle joints twice on my 08. :s:
Any use of 4x4 while turning that causes the truck to jump or bind will cause premature failure. I'm talking one or two incidents where you have binding.
I replaced the front U joints and ball joints @ 70k with moog greaseables. Haven't had any trouble since and I'm at 124k now. I think the stock ones being nongreasable wear quicker. Anybody else still replacing after installing greaseable units?
We only install moog or mopar and have had great success with the Moog Products.
I've yet to replace any moog parts at an unreasonable interval |
I put all moog parts in this time so im glad yall think well of them cuz i was goin out on a limb but yall have made it seem worth while. Thanks:c:

i have got 25k on my moog ball joints pulled the stock ones out at 120k the top ones were still fair but the bottom were junk the heavy cummins motor and beating down country roads doesnt help the front ends at all
Anyone know where you can get greaseable steering parts i cant find any. everything i find is sealed. = (
ive got 70k on my 03 had both axel joints replaced ball joints getting close
Moog makes everything greaseable...
I went with Moog for ball joints at around 180k...I replaced every u-joint by 75k. I think the main reason the OE ball joints fail so quickly is that they have little lubrication and once they get a little water in them, rust. My uppers and lowers were still in good shape, but sticky...upon disassembly, they were found rusted badly. My Moogs would expel free water and rusty grease when I added lubed them, until I finally got some good grease that is water proof. |
once you replace em with a good greaseable one youll run another 100k+ A good mechanic friend of mine says its very common for em to fail pretty quick on these dodges but he also says that the chevy front ends are worse but i replaced mine on my old 06 at 90k and when i sold it at 186k they where still as good as new
Installed new upper and lower moog ball joints 90,000
Had my alignment checked and found both buttoms are loose again....127,000 Back at it for me...... At least I don't have to take it to a shop for $$$$$ More shop time for me |
