i dont know that it restricts it so much as it quiets it down. taking it out will increase turbo noise

i merged all 3 of your threads into 1 since they were exactly the same.....

The silencer ring is a something that the engineers put in front of the turbo to decrease the turbo whistle. Having it on or taking it off has no affect on the performance of your turbo. Someone else might back me up here but I believe that it has no affect on your warranty either. So if you want to hear that sweet turbo whistle take off the silence ring. If you really want to hear if you prolly going to have to put on an aftermarket intake. AFE AEM S&B K&N something like that. Hope this helps.

It does absolutely nothing at all except quiet down your turbo. It doesnt affect performance one bit... Most people just like to hear their turbo scream when they stuff the throttle. Its simple enough to remove, the only thing holding it in is a big snap ring.

jlafollette07 11-18-2010 08:47 PM

Make it whistle :rocking:

Sirwrenchiezolot 11-19-2010 10:10 AM

Remove it it is just a muffler to make all the hippies and goverment happy :td:and get a after market intake that doesnt use the stock intake elbow with the baffles. the easyiest way to get it out is use 2 pocket screw drivers and pop it out.:tu:

DanLowe 11-19-2010 11:31 AM

It doesn't actually make the whistle outside the cab any louder, the in cab noise is definitely there...so, the aforementioned hippies that might get pissed shouldn't...until you see them walking on the shoulder of the road and smoke 'em out !

:rocking:

Silencer ring

Id save your energy and just wait until you put a cold air on. Just my 2 cents.

Sirwrenchiezolot 11-20-2010 08:56 PM

lol it made mine louder than hell out side the truck but you have to get a aftermarket intake that doesnt use the stock elbow with the baffels in the pipe mines a 06 truck it really depends on the turbo.

jnrdiesel 11-21-2010 12:23 AM

If your running with a stock intake, unless you remove all the silencing baffles out of it!! (like i did) and drop a K&N in it and modify the air box you wont hear a difference! but mine is loud enought that ive had people tell me runnning down the interstate 75mph or crusing 55mph behind them, windows down they can hear the turbo loud and clear. And FYI, DIESEL POWER MAG did a comparsion of intakes on dyno runs a while back with the same truck, (A STOCK CR DODGE!), to see what intake system did the best and believe it or not the stock intake performed just as good as any aftermarket!!!

Young #30 11-21-2010 06:24 PM

yeah i've got an 06 as well best year model ever right? cuz mine will out pull my brothers 08 thats chipped out (with mine being stock) every day of the week and twice on saturday

Sirwrenchiezolot 11-22-2010 03:10 PM

ill never get rid of my 06 i will jus buy another truck when i do. the P-pump is also awsome too i hav a 12v engine i want to stick in a old 70s model dodge

tyler00 11-29-2010 06:10 PM

i took out my ring and built a willy's whistler... it really makes the turbo sing.

timelessconstruction 12-04-2010 07:42 PM

I've got an 06 myself. Love it. I gutted my intake elbow when i took my silencer ring out but i can still only hear my turbo occasionally. Could be due to the fact that i'm running six inch dual stacks with no muffler, cat, or baffles tho.

steved 12-05-2010 02:33 PM

If you travel much, you will come to hate not having it in...it makes phone conversations annoying.

RAW 12-05-2010 02:53 PM

x2 on time in the truck. I'm trying to reduce the whistle in my cab. When I build my new air filter box, i intend to sound proof it as well.

North Pole Hooker 12-10-2010 06:47 AM

I yanked mine, after having my Airaid w/ Modular Intake Tube installed for about six months. Does it help in performance? Not even a little! Does it make it louder in the cab? Yep, sure does! Or, at least, that's what my friends say. After flying in Chinook Helicopters for the last 20 years, I am pretty much deaf to that frequency range, and I really only hear it while under overpasses or pulling in/out of the gates on post, where they have huge concrete barriers all around you and you can really hear everything reflect/bounce/echo off of the barriers. But, on the rare occasion that I DO hear it, it's freakin' SWEET! But then again, I'm just a kid at heart!:tu:

CoalTrain99 12-11-2010 11:05 AM

Easy to take out makes it sound alot better..possibly a little more airflow if you look when you take it out the ring covers about a half inch all the way around the turbo but mostly for sound:c:

How hard is it to gut the stock intake system on an 2007 5.9? I don't want to mess up any sensors or anything, but would love to make my turbo scream.

I would personally leave that alone and grab an aftermarket. Ive taken a look at mine and thought about using a circle bit to gut it but I dont want to chance cutting into the sides. It looks very time consuming as well.

timelessconstruction 12-13-2010 09:19 PM

hole saw?

what would you need a hole saw for. i gutted my intake elbow very easily with a screwdriver and a pair of pliars. and all it took to get the silencer ring out (other than a nutdriver for the hose clamps on the intake) is a little flathead screwdriver and a pair of needlenose. if you take the whole intake assembly apart at each junction then you can slide the baffles right out. I actually messed up and popped the flange loose on one end but used red glue to put it back together and just to be safe sealed it on the outside with silicone. all in all took less than 45 min.

it would be a good thing to drown out the old woman if shes in a mood while on a trip, I'd rather listen to a constant whistle than to listen to my GF bitch. :scare2:

Oh and it couldn't of been worse than this guys whistle.
