Low Fuel Pressure 2006 Dodge Cummins

Anyone know what would cause low fuel pressure (not rail). I just changed the filther and it helped a little bit. it never gets above 8, and if im on it hard it goes to 0 quickly:f:.
The pressure sender for my gauge is in the pump.

Dr. Evil 10-04-2007 12:58 AM

My guess is a crappy lift pump. I dont know third gens very well, but you could verify the fuel pressure with a mechanical guage.

When are the clowns at DC EVER going to get it right?

Why dont they call up Brad at DPP and buy FASS units in bulk and put an end to all this lift pump garbage?

Sorry for the rant...

5-8 is correct while daily driving.

I could suck mine dry when still stock at WOT, a FASS or Walboro is in my future.

hummm 5-8 is "normal". . . thats pathetic. :bat:

Wyatt Earp 10-04-2007 10:17 AM

yep. normal for a CP3 truck. This is why when you add power to a newer truck you look at add an additional CP3 pump and a bigger (REAL) lift pump. If you can keep the pressure at 8-10 on WOT in a CP3 you are laughing all the way home.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones then. My stock LP makes 10psi at idle and never drops below 4-5psi on a WOT pull. I hope it lasts forever......

My in tank pump sits at 9 psi at idle, and never really gets below 5.

how hard is it to install a fuel pressure gauge? Where do you install it at? Any links for directions?

It is a piece of cake, here is what I did for mine.

Got ISSPRO gauge from Dieselmanor.com (before I signed up here to get from a sponsor hint hint) get one with a regulator and a braided line with banjo bolt for bottom of fuel filter canister. Run wires into cab and mount gauge in desired location. Here is where I mounted my regulator.

Hook up as shown in picture and then install line on filter canister.

I hope that these destructions are not too confusing, I know that it has been almost a year since I did mine and have not had any trouble out of it at all. I could do this in about 20 minutes if all the correct parts were there, depending on gauge mount location.

Clear as mud? :)

I would contact our sponsors and see if any of them have a all included kit, I had to call dieselmanor and make sure that I had all the parts, they sell the braided line kit seperate from the gauge kit that I bought. I had to get a 36" line to go that far and there still is some slack in it. If you need anything else do not hesitate to post up, if I do not answer I am sure that someone else will.
