Well, crap!

I think I already know the answer, (starts with an "I" and ends with a "njectors", but here goes. My '03 started acting a little "funny" yesterday. It is not wanting to idle down properly. It idles down smooth, but the rpm's want to hang around 1000-1100 far a second or two before dropping down to the regular 750.

I remember someone here (i think it was Whit) saying you can check injector condition by bringing the rpm's up to 3000 while in neutral and it should take no more than 5 seconds to return to idle. Well, while slowly bringing the R's up to 3000, they start to get a little rough and the tach needle jumps around just a fuzz at around 2500. While holding the R's at 3000, I can feel the whole truck buck a bit and what sounds like a hint of intermittent timing rattle. When I release the peddle, the R's will reach that 1000-1100 rpm range within 4-4.5 seconds, but then hang there for 1-2 seconds, putting me over my 5 second limit.

Here's the thing. The truck runs great! No starting issues. No mystery smoke of any color (the black smoke is no mystery!). No smell of fuel in the oil. Nothing!

I did the ignition key trick and came up with two codes:

0633 (SKIM key not programmed into PCM)

0514 (Battery temp sensor performance/rationality)

So what do you all think? Are my injectors heading south or am I over-reacting and overlooking something simple?

Yup your fine the programmer you run is doing it! Whatch your MPG when they go south then worry!

Actually,I thought about that, so I had the Edge turned to stock. Think it could still be causing the problem? I've had it on there for 5 years without any problem at all.

OK. I took to heart what dangerous1965 said about the Edge. It made sense, so I went under the hood and disconnected everything and pulled it out (stock sux!).

Removing the Edge did take away the herky-jerky rev above 2500 rpm's:choochoo:, but it did nothing for the 2 second "hang-time" when returning to idle, though it gets from 3000 rpm's to 1100 in less than 4 seconds.:humm:

Sure would like to hear other Bombers ideas.:hellox:

Rising oil level and fuel smell in the oil are good signs of bad injectors.

Hmmmm maybe the pressure valve is acting up others will chime in! It has to do with the rail pressure hanging up not sure what though.:humm:

Well just so u know it's not the fuel control actuator on the cp3 cause I just replaced mine hoping to cure the choppy rev down on mine. Still the same. I'm not sure what to check next

Anybody else???

Just so you know this is totally normal for a CR!!

Whit 04-20-2010 09:38 PM

thats what I was thinkin................its normal:humm:

Red_Rattler 04-20-2010 09:58 PM

Normal IMO mine will even hang alil between shifts... I got use to it but now that I have the 12v and have been drivin that alot when I jump back in the CR I can tell the throttle responce back to idle is crazy slow :D
