Cummins Motor strength?
My Moms 97 has close to 400,000 miles and still running strong, just can't keep trans under it. The 99 I sold last summer had 285,000 miles and still running strong. My bros 02 has around 170,000 and mine has a measily 90,000.
what i am saying is that the more power added the shorter the life of the engine , i always maintained the truck never ,shut down hot and never towed real heavy. the cummins is a good engine, i dropped a valve and bent a push rod and the piston still didnt break even with a nice sized dent in it, i know lots of stock to mild trucks that work great for a long time, i do see that these CR's are not as strong above the 600 mark as the older cummins , i make my living as a diesel tech and see what happens to trucks that have been modded and they are less reliable than a stock truck, weather its a rig or pickup. good way to look at it is look how big and strong a ISX cummins parts are and how they dwarf the ISBE's, and at its peak they were good for 600 hp and 1800 tq we have a customer with one in his freightliner and its got a fueling box on it since the box has been on he has had more engine failures while not all major they still mean down time. no matter how much maintance is done parts still have there limits. im not for or against mods or stock trucks do what makes you happy as the owner. just remember if you wanna play you gotta pay
