Short throw?

I am curious as to what this does? Of course the name implies that it decreases the throw distance but how hard is it to install, how much do they usually cost, and what are the benefits in a 6spd standard? I know of BD short throw but nothing else. Any feedback is appreciated!

Short throw kits are pretty easy to install, I done several on rice rockets here and there, I'd imagine a truck would be easier.

Based on a redesign of the shifter arm, it takes play(throw) out of the shift pattern by moving the fulcrum point higher on the shifter, I'd say the best benefit is less missed sifts, and a more positive shift.

Maybe you could post in the parts request forum to see if you can get a deal.

I dont see a benifit for the short throw kit.............its based for quick shifting or race type shifting and the 6 speed sure doesnt need that at all............hafta take yer time with the 6 speed, forcing the shift is bad for this bis tranny

But reducing the throw distance shouldn't have a negative side effect. Maybe you can shift within a shorter distance but i don't see how it would hurt the tranny. I would actually think it would be better for the tranny, but then again maybe it wouldn't be. Hmm Im not sure what to think.

Mine broke. Granted they redesigned it since then so there's less stress on it by makinin it less of a short throw. But still as Whit said these tranny aren't made for speed, they are very lathagic beasts. BD wouldn't replace mine since it was over a year old so I never got another one and honestly I don't miss it since it never made the shifts easier or crisper like I thought it would...

lol...Im sure for every one person you find that doesnt like the product,, theres another one that loves it.

The way I look at it is if the tranny was meant to have a shorter throw it would. I don't think the throw is all that bad for a pickup tranny compared to the 435 in my old fords I've had.
