Default Gauge lighting ?

I installed Westach gauges a while ago and love them. But, I have one issue I hope someone can help me with. I tapped the lights to the dimmer switch and it works well, but when i turn the dimmer all the way up it raises the temps on the tranny and rear diff 25-50*. Anybody know a way to solve this problem? Thanks, Mike

did you get power for the gauges from the dimmer or for just the lights? try hooking them to a switched fuse on the fuse block.... hook it to the radio fuse as it'll turn off with the key.... sounds like you have gauge power and light power hooked up to the same wire...... insufficient voltage from a potientiometer will cause the reading to be lower than normal...... since it'll have less than normal power.... hope this helps

I have each gauge powered on seperate fuses on a Painless block. Tied all three gauge lites together and tapped to the dimmer. So the dimmer is just for the lites.

interesting..... i dono.... try running straight power to the lights on them and see if there is anything odd with the temps, ie higher than normal.....

If I run straight power to the lights, how would I dim them if needed?

is it worth having incorrect readings on your gauges and not knowing what the temps really are or being able to dim the lights? just do it for a couple of days and watch the temps and make sure they are in check.... but other than that i don't know what's going on.... have you called their tech support line and asked them? are these gauges electric? do they use the same ground point for the lights and the gauge itself if it is electric? if so try using a completely different ground somewhere else.....

EDIT try using the dimmer wire off the radio and see if that makes any sort of difference.... that's where i tapped my Autometers in at and have had no problems....

I haven't called tech support yet, I wanted to check here first. I had them grounded at two different locations and then tied into the same ground with the same outcome. I'll try tapping into the radio dimmer and see if it makes a difference.
