48re slow to start.
I have a 2003 stock 3500 4x4 with a 48re tranny and some days the truck is slow to get going even if you put the pedal to the floor. It's acting like it is starting out in 2nd or slipping. What causes this to happen, is it torque converter related or burnt clutches or something else?

It seems to be fine other than starting out. Lots of power, still pulls hard once up to speed even on the days it is acting up. On the days it is acting up, speeds less than 30 mph is where the problem is. The engine seems to be revving higher when you step on it and the truck doesn't have the get up and go.
Torque Converter maybe. Does it seem to just linger in gear to it almost redlines then shifts hard? Does it happen all the time or is it just when your first starting out after the truck has been sitting for awhile?
It seems to be a day by day thing almost. Some days it will be just fine than other days it is terrible. It is most noticable on starting out but even once you get going say under 30 mph and step on it, it just doesn't get up and go like it should, however at higher speeds it seems to be fine. It seems to shift fine for the most part. What are some of the symptons of a torque converter going bad? What makes them go bad and what happens to them?
I agree. It could be the torque converter. But I was having the same problem when my lift pump was going out. It would drive fine and then sometimes when I would push the pedal to the floor there was very little to no power at all then would pick up just fine a little while later. It also operated fine at high speeds. But mine is a 6spd so there is a chance it is your transmission. You should also check your transmission fluid levels unless you already have.
Rather than wait for the tranny to quit, I decided to replace the governor pressure solenoid and sensor. That's what the problem was, I would suggest to anyone experiencing problems with their tranny to replace these two little items.
