water pump / thermostat replacement
quick how to on replacing the
thermostat and water pump. remove thermostat housing via 7mm bolt ( 3 ) http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/100_0977.jpg remove old thermostat http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/100_0978.jpg clean off facing and apply gasket sealant, and replace with new thermostat http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/100_0979.jpg next remove the water pump via 10mm bolts ( 2 ) - note that it really helps with access if you remove the airbox if you still have the oem box http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/100_0980.jpg try and dry as much antifreeze from the both facings as well as remove any old gasket material http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/100_0982.jpg here is the oem and the replacement - odd thing i noticed was the the oem pump did not have a seep hole, but the replacement did. http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/100_0981.jpg apply gasket sealant to the underside of the rubber o ring then seat the ring in place. once that is done apply additional sealant to the top of the o ring and around the bolt holes just to be safe, once again ensuring that no sealant gets on the water pump fins http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/100_0983.jpg reinstall the water pump with the oem bolts and reroute the serpentine belt and wah lah your done. http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/100_0985.jpg hope this helps some peeps  |

Was it the original pump, or did you have to change it once before??
Also, where did you notice the leak?? |

Also, where did you notice the leak?? the glove box and it had the 1st owners name on some maintenance records. i cold called him and talked to him for 20 minutes asking about the truck in detail as far as history and he said that he neer changed anything out. looked like it was leaking from the pulley shaft. 1st thing i noticed was liquid leaking on the driveway and it was all over the a/c condesor, crank pulley and around that area. just assumed that it was the water pump, when i took it off you could see coolant stain in one spot. also the new thermostat i put in seems sticky. its a 210 degree stat and the temp gage goes up to 210, then back down below 200, then up to 210 then back down below 200. it cycles that way constantly now. thinking about taking it off and getting another one to see if i just got a bad one. carrying the original around with me just in case it sticks shut. |
If it's cycling like that, got a faulty t-stat. BTW, don't believe them when they say it's normal.
