G56/Mileage Question
The time has come for me to look for a different truck...As it turns out I have need of more cab space then my regular cab 06 can provide...I would like to go back to a manual trans but I am a bit leary of the G56 with it .80 : 1 OD ratio...I am looking for feed back from G56 owners on what kind of mileage you are seeing as well as which mods helped the most...Chances are that I am going to be getting an 05 because I really prefer the interior of the older 3rd gens to the newer ones...I would love to get an NV5600 but those things are impossible to find these days...Any input would be greatly appreciated...TIA

I'm getting around 19.5 to 20 on the interstate running 70 to 75 at 2300 to 2400 rpm's, i would say that isn't to bad considering....the inline six motors always did get way better fuel milage than the bigger V8 motors, i would say there is a good chance you won't have any problems with the G56, i have 23,000 miles on mine with no issues, by the way my truck is stock with the acception on exhaust and intake!

I get 18-19 out of my dually 4x4@65mph.

I'm getting 17-18 out of my srw 4x4 @ 60-65mph. Altitude plays a role in my mileage, I'm at 7K ft elevation. When I travel at lower elevations I get a little better mileage.

I get 17 - 18 city/highway.
I got 14 pulling my dads 7000lbs boat labor day weekend. |
best i've gotten out of my 06 was 20mpg, thats keeping it around 60mph. going to florida i got 17 going 70-75 mpg

The milage on the truck is also a factor. when mine was new the best I got out of it was 14.5mpg. Around 30k miles it started getting better, but this is also when the stock muffler and catalytic converter came off.

Here is all the info on my trip home with fuel mileage. I can honestly say that the predator helped the fuel mileage IMHO.
Mountain driving, Cruise set around 77 MPH 474 miles on tank 32.003 gallons 14.8 MPG Flat ground, cruise set around 75 MPH 490 Miles on tank 26.905 gallons 18.21 MPG Flat ground, cruise set around 75 MPH 503 miles on tank 29.98 gallons 16.78 MPG Some mountains, cruise set around 75 MPH 421 miles on tank 22.2 gallons 18.96 MPG Total miles driven - 1888 Total fuel - 111.18 Gallons Average fuel economy - 16.995 MPG Driving time - ~27 Hrs Average speed - 69.93 MPH The truck just rolled over 27k tonight so it is barely getting broken in. |
You can also look into getting 3.42s to replace the 3.73s...they now offer them for the front 9.25AAM and the rear 11.50AAM...
