Thats the filter in my 06.It will fit SORT OF angled into the old air box area...HOWEVER
the filter is just too big.My intake as made does work well but in fairly short time my pre filter has a hole worn from where the filter rides against the alternator.I have also found
the clamp system needs attention to remain tight.I would'nt want to go back to stock.

I am thinking of trying to find a slightly smaller filter(not trusting the oiled performance type)
I did see a setup where a guy had a cobra elbow and it fit much better with the filter vertical,though still within the same factory space

you can get a smaller amsoil dry filter
that fits really well, try and find one
with the cone shape and you shouldnt
have any fitment issues.

your right that filter is just too dang
big for the 3rd gens
