Driveshaft Question
 

Anyone replaced the carrier/center bearing on their 07 QC LB yet? My truck is shaking when going between 0 and 10 MPH and I think it's the cause of the shudder/shaking.

i don't know how to fix it but i know how to prevent it, buy a short box, problem solved:argh:

Believe it's something bigger than the carrier bearing. Usually you don't notice it until around 50+ mph. Wouldn't hurt to check it.

I HAD ALOT OF DRIVESHAFT PROBS OUT OF MY 2004 5.9 QC LB...3 TIMES WAS CARRIER BEARING

Maybe it's something else.......it does squeek too at low speeds. It's really noticable when there's a load too. The other day I had the horse trailer loaded with horses and the dang thing shuddered like crazy between 5-10 MPH or so. Real noticable. What else could it be? I don't think it's the clutch cause it doesn't slip pulling a load and it doesn't shudder other than in this little window I'm having right now. The truck only has 70k miles on it too. The brake pads are even new looking still :rocking:

Check all u-joints.

Checked.....wouldn't U-joints shudder at higher speeds too on these trucks? They did on all my other trucks. I just replaced the front driveshaft on my 94 Grand Cherokee and it was shaking at all speeds on that one. It's was the double cardigan(sp) that wen't out on that.

i had this problem last month while coming back from tn towing a boat at low speeds the truck would shake like crazy got it home and found the u-join at the rearend was toast replaced it but now i have a diffrant problem now the carrier bearing is on its way out i am going to replace it this weekend if the weather holds out

you will feel the carrier bearing at take off.
if your feeling it shutter then, its prolly the
rubber bushing on the carrier bearing. you
can get under there and see how much play
is there, it should be slim to none.

REMOVAL
1. Remove rear propeller shaft.
2. Make installation reference marks on the shaft (1) and slip yoke (2).
3. Remove slip joint boot (1) clamp (2).
4. Slide boot (1) off boot collar (2) and separate the two shafts.
5. Position Bearing Splitter Tool 1130 (2) between slinger and center bearing (1).
6. Install Bridge 938 (3) on the splitter (2) and remove center bearing (1).

INSTALLATION
1. Install new slinger on shaft if removed and drive into position with appropriate installer tool.
2. Install new center bearing (1) and boot collar (2) on shaft.
3. Install bearing (1) and boot collar (2) on shaft with Installer 6052 (3).
4. Clean shaft splines and apply a coat of multi-purpose grease.
5. Align master splines and slide front and rear half-shafts together.
6. Position slip yoke boot (1) on boot collar and install clamp (2).
7. Install propeller shaft in vehicle.

Launch shudder is a vibration that occurs at first acceleration from a stop. Shudder vibration usually peaks at the engines highest torque output. Shudder is a symptom associated with vehicles using a two-piece propeller shaft. To decrease shudder, lower the center bearing in 3.0 mm (0.125 in.) increments. Use shim stock or fabricated plates. Do not use washers. Replace the original bolts with the appropriate increased length bolts
