Injector Failure

well, i was driving down the i-10 (at about 70 mpg) on my way to Orlando to visit some family for thanksgiving and my truck all of the sudden threw a CEL and starting running like crap and had no power. cycled the key to find out code p2149 popped up. so now i'm stuck on the side of the highway. luckily i had a good friend w/ a gooseneck trailer that was able to come and pick me up. i was 2 hrs away from my house. I've done some searching but i hadn't found any treads where people came back on to let us know what happened to fix their problems. i've checked the connections for the injectors but it didn't change anything.

well, the dealer ended up screwing me on the deal. they said the #5 injector failed and the tech hadn't seen an injector fail like that before so he called dodge or cummins tech department and they told them the only way the injectors fail like that was if it had a tuner on it (which i don't yet). the manager said that he had no prof that it had one so they didn't void the warranty on the truck but they were not going to cover the 1k bill to replace the injector. i think this is BS! they should have paid this, i have done nothing to the truck to cause this. i didn't want to pay for this but i need to get my truck fixed so i could still make it down for the holidays (i'll be in the desert this time next year). so now i've got to try to see if i can get my money reimbursed. this is just frustrating!!!! i'll let ya'll know what happens.

Just be happy that it didn't score a cylinder. But it does suck when they try and hamstring a guy over nothing.

nwflyoda 11-28-2008 08:58 AM

how would it score a cylinder?

wildbill 11-28-2008 09:58 AM

Cylinder gets flooded with diesel and it washes the oil off the cylinder wall. Pretty soon scored cylinder and piston.

nwflyoda 11-29-2008 12:05 AM

is there anyway to check that?

wildbill 11-29-2008 01:09 AM

Bore scope, or you can tell by how it runs. It seem to run good still?

nwflyoda 11-29-2008 08:02 AM

yeah, like nothing really happened.

Hummin Cummins 12-02-2008 05:41 PM

No way would I pay for this. You did nothing wrong.

Seriously :bat:I would have took the keys and drove away with them screaming you cant do that!

nwflyoda 12-02-2008 06:20 PM

i'll be talking w/ them tomorrow about getting my money back. i'll let ya'll know what happens.

dalton06 12-02-2008 07:50 PM

heck yeah man that's not right. If u had a tuner and tried playing it offs one thing. But not having one and them not believing it is bs

dangerous1965 12-06-2008 08:58 PM

Get a lawyer only way you will get it back At least get a lawyers card and hand it to the service manager after he says go away! He may change his mind!

Benjamin 12-06-2008 09:01 PM

they have to PROVE that something you added caused the problem. it is called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

nwflyoda 12-07-2008 11:54 AM

thanks, i knew there was a law that governed the warranty, but i had a had time finding it.

Diesel Nut 12-11-2008 03:00 PM

the manager said that he had no prof that it had one so they didn't void the warranty on the truck but they were not going to cover the 1k bill to replace the injector.
This is where it gets odd. They didn't void the warranty but denied the claim? 3 words for you brother - Better Business Bureau - Untitled

File a complaint with full account for what happened and you'll get a response.

nwflyoda 12-11-2008 03:48 PM

thats what i'm going to do. i've talked w/ both dodge customer service and the dealership and i'm not having any luck so far (although, i will still try). but i did find out something that was a little interesting about the dealer. i didn't take my truck to the local dealership because of the problems i've had w/ them in the past so i took it to a new dealership to me and they had the impression that i've taken my truck to other dealers trying to get this fixed under warranty and they weren't going to pay it (i think they were going to find any way possible to get out of it because of that). WTF!! so i'll be getting in contact w/ the BBB and see where that gets me. the service manager ever treated to black list my truck if i kept trying...lol

nwflyoda 02-24-2009 08:38 PM

well, after going through my CC company and through the BBB and having no luck...i filed lawsuit against them today. we'll see how it turns out.

scottsjeeprolet 02-24-2009 08:49 PM

:pca1:
Good luck bud!!

nwflyoda 02-24-2009 08:55 PM

thanks, i hope my luck turns around and i actually win something for a change.

nmlakerat 02-25-2009 01:54 PM

good luck brother :pca1:

Benjamin 02-25-2009 02:39 PM

good luck..... keep us informed...

nwflyoda 02-25-2009 09:10 PM

thanks ya'll...too bad i have to wait to apr 16th for our mediation date. but i'll keep ya'll informed.

cummins tech 02-27-2009 12:08 AM

That code is not caused by a programer. That code gets trown when the injector solinoid failes. causing the injector to either not fire or to fire all the time.. I wouldnt have paid them and i would of made them show proff of them thinking there is a programer on it. Another person u can talk to is the dealers distric manager because he is the one who makes the final say.

nwflyoda 02-27-2009 07:36 PM

thanks for the info, i didn't really have a choice to pay or not...i needed the truck back ASAP. but we'll see how it goes. i'm still new to the diesels

nwflyoda 03-04-2009 09:00 PM

hey cummins tech, do you work for a dealership or just a diesel mechanic? i'm think about printing your comment out and showing that to the lawyer when we go to court. i figure anything helps.

thanks.
