low mileage 5.9L

Hey All,

This is my first post for a potential first diesel truck. I am purchasing the truck mainly for towing uses and wanted to see what everyone's input would be about a lower mileage 5.9L motor. I have no experience with auto diesels, only a pair of detroits on an old Viking yacht. This particular car is a 2006 Ram with the 5.9L motor in it. I don't know if it's been modified but I do know that it has been used only about 5.5K miles per year and currently has about 80K miles on it. Maintenance records appear clean so is there anything I am missing or should look for when I go to test drive it in a few days? I am concerned mainly with reliability of a motor that hasn't been used much. Thank you!

If you don't get it, I will!!! I have an 06 dodge cummins and its been the best diesel truck ive ever owned. For that low of mileage, its not even broken in yet. Just keep in mind if you do get it. DO NOT EVER buy fuel filters and oil filters on the cheap. You will regret it dearly. Only use good quality filters.

If it’s stock go with it- 5.9 are a great motors- I traded mine in with 260k - the rattled on the interior were bugging me to no end - the cab on the 3rd gens aren’t bad but 4th gens are way nicer to ride in....I wish I had a 5.9 in my 4th gen but I haven’t had any issues with 2013 6.7 so I can’t complain
