Question 5.9 2006 Fan clutch problems

Hi all, I've have a 2006 2500 5.9 Cummings 24v that I've replaced 3 fan clutches in less then 10 months and 2 were from the dodge dealer in Stuttgart AR. I'm tired and it's frustrating me. I've decided that maybe a manual fan would be best unless someone can help me here. So, any suggestions? I'm going to try it myself being I feel the dealership is incompetent. The ac is out, again, as well. It's running around 220 or higher temp. Before all this started 180 or below was normal. I've cleaned out the radiator inside and out. The fan clutch just plain isn't running and it's now brand new. If anyone out there has replace their fan clutch with a manual, please let me know how you did it. Thank y'all so much!

Check the plug that plugs into the fan clutch. In the service manual it will tell you what each wire in the plug is supposed to ohm out to. Make sure that is all good.

Agreed- harness is on lower drivers side of the fan- if it is working intermittently and your ac isn't working properly then just add a SPAL low profile fan- I just did this on mine about a month ago and have had consistent engine, trans, and ac temps! Pretty easy install to keep things cool!

I'll check the harness. CumminsCoalRoller, where did you get the SPAL fan?

I got it off amazon along with the connector harness. Everything for about $80 I believe. The 16" fits VERY snug but didn't need to cut or bend anything. I have the thread with wiring info here. PM me if you want a pic of it mounted - it's been great for ac and overall engine/trans temp

If the fan is not working then either it is bad or the ECU is bad. You can wire a switch into the fan harness to activate the tronic portion of the fan if it is good and bypass ECU control. If the tronic portion keeps going out keep taking it back until you get a good one.

The additional fan will help with unloaded temps but will not help towing, will still heat more than it should.
