Random A/C Purge

Had this happen for the second time- last time was about 2 months ago - same situation both times and it happened again today. I drove about 3 miles from home with ac on lowest blower setting and recirc, about 80-90 degrees outside, when in park with the truck running idle for about 5 minutes with Ac on suddenly a loud sound comes from the engine bay. After shutting the truck down quickly and getting it back home I crawled under and noticed a spray/drops on stabilizers under ac compressor. First time i checked the dryer for pressure with a cheapo set of gauges and it read high- I released some freon out and have used it without issue for 2months since until today. When I checked pressure today it was fine. Last summer I installed new compressor, dryer, and orfice tube. Any thoughts? I understand the compressor does this so it doesn't break under high pressure but how can I prevent this from happening again? When I got it home today I let it run for about 15 mins in the driveway to recreate the situation but of course was unsuccessful- I have read about putting fans on condenser to increase air flow but that seems to be more for lack of cold blowing ac- mine blows cold already

NOT ENOUGH AIR FLOW THRU THE CONDENSOR! Usually means your fan clutch is shot.
have you ever heard your fan kick on? I put an aux fan slim line on the front to push air thru the condenser never had an issue after that!

I have noticed my fan kick on before but haven't noticed it enough to know if it does it all the time. With the slim fan did you need to do any trimming to fit it behind the grill? Also what's the best way to wire it? I would imagine I would just want it to kick on only when running AC- thanks for the info- you always have the answer:humm:

Pulled the trigger on a 16" slim fan from Amazon- couple reviews from guys with same truck installing them and clearing front grill- can I wire this directly into AC compressor so it will engage whenever that kicks on or will the TIPM not like that?

I put the Spal fan on mine and used their relay kit as well. You can use the TIPM AC signal to trigger the relay. The fan is too power hungry to not use a relay setup.

So with a 4 prong relay wire it like below

Prong
30- battery
87- power fan
85- ground
86- ac power

Yes, but I would also put a fuse inline with the battery feed.

Wire like they said above or put a switch in the cab. above preferred!

No more switches in the cab!! Too many already!! I will wire relay into compressor- Thanks!

Fan took about 2 hrs to install with wiring to compressor - works like a champ! Ran it for about 4 hrs today doing all kinds of driving/idling and had no purge, air was ice cold, and trans/coolant temp never broke 195 with it 97 degrees outside! :yeah: great mod! Thanks for everyone's help!
