5.9 fresh rebuild...ticking at 1500 rpm

I built a 2005 5.9 CR this week. Got the engine back in the truck and hooked up and started it. It idles perfect and sounds great until about 1500 rpm. When going down the highway you can hear a constant 'tick' especially when you let off the throttle. I adjusted the valves before I set the engine in the truck (.010 intake & .020 exhaust). I brought the truck home and double checked the valve lash and it was perfect. I have read that the cp3 pump can make a 'ticking' noise if it is not in time with the engine (yes I know the cp3 does not have timing marks) but some people say the pistons in the pump need to correspond with the pistons in the engine. I don't remember the engine making this noise before the rebuild. Has anyone ever had this problem or does anyone know if there's any truth to the cp3 making this noise? Any info is greatly appreciated.

CP3 Story is funny NO you can't time it! Do you have a rail pressure gauge ? What mods?

No I don't have a rail pressure gauge. The truck is bone stock except a 4" exhaust and K&N filter. Sounds just like a rocker arm ticking, but they all were in spec.

An injector will make that noise too!

I guess there's always the possibility of an injector. They were rebuilt by diesel injection service in Louisville, Ky. One of them could still be bad though. I'm going to remove all rocker arms and push rods today and make sure everything is ok.

Well today I took the rockers, bridges and pushrods out. Everything looked good and was in place. Cleaned everything and checked and then reinstalled. Set valve lash again. Started truck up and revved it to 1500 rpm and still have the same sound. I drove the truck down the road and stopped at a gas station and noticed the engine had a slight miss. So I really am thinking a injector is bad. I never imagined a injector would cause such a loud ticking noise.

Get a set of BBI Stage one and call it a day! At least that's my dream! LOL
