Extremely Hard to Shift Lever from Park to a Drive Gear

I have a 2005 Dodge, 1 ton, 4x4 with a 5.9 engine and a 48RE automatic transmission. The problem I'm having is that I can barely shift the shift lever from Park to Drive or Reverse. The transmission works perfectly other than that as far as shifting automatically while driving. Is there a "linkage" issue that I can fix that someone knows about? Or is it internal? Looking for help on this one. Thanks

Detent ball on the rooster comb in the valve body ie holds the trans manual valve in the correct position goerend transmission has the fix for it. Requires dropping the valve body
to correct

AK Happy Jack - Thanks for your response to my dilemna. I did check out the goerend website and looked for the "fix" you referred me to. I did not see the part I believe you talked about. Any chance you could send me a direct link to the part or a part number? Thank you in advance.

Happy jack check the sonnax site out when you get ready to rebuild. We have some high performance stuff for the 48RE units. And a few more in development now.
