going back to stock wheel size

Ok so im pretty sure the guy from the tire shop is just stupid but heres the situation my pickup has 20s i hate them to flashy and to expensive so i was pricing some 17s the stock size wheels and the salesman told me they wouldnt give the calipers enough clearance i replied then why in hell were the wheels 17" from the factory any who just wanted to get some input thanks for reading

If all is stock rotors, calipers etc. than the only issue would be off set of new wheels.
In my area I find people on CL trying to sell there stock wheels and tries the alloy and the chrome clad for reasonable prices. CL just something to think about

Thanks for the input I've been watching CL as well but I think I'm just save up a little dough and get the ones I want but still in 17" my pickup does have the performance drilled and spotted front rotors but I borrowed my roommates spare 17" wheel and tried it nothing rubbed so I think I'm good

your roomates spare is going to have the stock wheel offset.

aftermarket wheels have variable offsets / back spacing. thats whats crucial. stock wheels / spare will clear stock calipers w/ or w/o slotted & drilled rotors.

backspacing / offset is your key.

17x8 is stock wheel size- lug pattern is 8x6.5- like they said if you're stock calipers and rotors 17s will clear without issues
