suncoast allison for ctd

anyone thinking about one of these trans, suncoast has a conversion to put a allison behind a cummins. I think it would be a great combo but it comes with a price.

I met a guy that has done this, he says it is a very sweet ride, I have never ridden in it.

DazedandConfused 04-12-2007 08:36 PM

Have they put any info on the site yet? I was told by suncoast a month or so ago that it would be between $8000-$10000.

i remember reading somewhere that the allison was only good for somethin like another 90 horse over stock on the duramaxes. with what it costs to put an allison behind the cummins you could probably do a fully built dodge tranny and be better off, or maybe i am totally wrong?

DazedandConfused 04-12-2007 08:48 PM

That is a fully built Allison though included in that price.

It would make a perfect combo in my book

you can get more power with the allison built up

You might want to check with a good Allison tech and see what they think of that baby Ally behind a tuned up 5.9.........lol

if you want it for the extra gear (or 2 depending on application) then it's probably worth the money. but if ur doing it for durability reasons u can get ur trans built to handle just as much and probably more for less money.

DazedandConfused 04-13-2007 01:58 PM

Depending on the numbers and what you do with the truck I think the Allison is a better choice. Bigger shafts and stronger then ours. Now they are doing all billet for them. I want to wait and see how the new dodge six speed auto does.

redneckbuckeye 04-13-2007 02:45 PM

The allison when built is almost tough to beat.

This is why i want it. With my 6sp manual and 3.73's with 37" tires im running about 2050 rpms at 70. With a 6sp ally, i could put 4.56 gears in my truck (giving me fantastic low end grunt) and run around 2k rpm's at 80. That is incredibly appealing. Then i would actually have a fast truck.

not to hijack this thread or anything but does anyone know if the new 68re will even fit behind the 5.9?

It should from what I have read the bellhousing is the same on them.

alisons have been running in medium duty's behind cummins and other I 6's for many years now
for instance a 466 international motor can be up to 290 horse
nothing spectacular but they are up in 950 ft lbs of tq
from what i have seen with alisons is what kills them is guys grabbing the shifter and trying to tell it what to do
best thing to do is put it in drive and let it do its job and it wont fail you
come to think of it one of the newer ones i looked didnt even have a shifter
they are push button P R N D and thats it

My dad runs an allison tranny behind the CTD 8.3 in his 40' diesel pusher RV. Push button operation.. that thing kicks butt!
