The smarty paperwork says SW 3 is the highest you should go with a stock auto. I'd keep the torque management low as well. The harder you beat on it, the shorter it will live.

Consider this; you can kill a stock transmission on stock power, or, run Smarty on SW9 and not kill the trans. Short answer is a lot depends on your right foot and all the other settings on Smarty.
Basically, you could probably run SW2 and use it all without hurting things. If you try to run SW3 or higher and reduce the TQ management to where the truck responds so much better to throttle it is only a matter of time until it torches the direct clutch pack and likely ruins the input shaft. If you want to make use of the power and the settings to optimize the driving experience you NEED to upgrade the trans to a degree. A shift kit, billet band strut and anchor, front servo cover will allow you to get pretty aggresive up to SW6 or until the TC gives up, that will be the weak point after the other smaller upgrades. |
Like said, it all depends on how you drive. And a huge part of it also is luck. I have a buddy with efi live and a 64 running a stock trans with 200k on it and it's still kickin. So you may get lucky....don't count on it though.

Additionally to what's already been said, remove the TC Anti-drain back valve, turn up the line pressure a tad. Mine survived over 30,000 mi w/ Crazy Larry and another 4,000 mi with compounds...

It's a new 48re tranny or stock tranny but thank you for the advice and let me know more please

Install a good aftermarket valve body and torque converter

What about input and out put shaft with the valve body and tc

An inline auxillary trans cooler cant hurt.........to help keep trans temps in check.
