Valve's? Noticed ticking in the top end

He all!

I noticed a little ticking noise coming from the top end around 2000 rpm's, is this valves need to be adjusted or a normal dodge diesel noise. the truck has 136k mi. the noise goes away at higher and lower RPM's. any info would be great!!

My truck has the same noise. Had it to the garage and I was told to try adjusting valves first. If it doesn't go away, could be bad injector. Mine almost sounds like it's pinging. Dodge was noted for injectors going bad after so many miles and I believe you and I are about there.

Sorry but what is "having the overhead run"??

I have been reading as many threads as I can find but can't seem to find an answer that won't cost a few thousand to check!

Also I CAN NOT get the engine to tick just sitting there. ONLY when driving! Makes me think it may be a normal noise. If I can slowly rev the motor up to 3000rpm and no ticking, probably not a engine problem. I get in the truck, put it in drive and slowly take off.... ticking. Sounds like a gas engine that's low on oil, like valves ticking. If I give her some gas, the ticking stops. Back to mellow driving, tick tick tick tick. Seems like lots of people have similar issues. Other then replacing all the injectors or all the valves, any easy fix's I could try?

Thanks

might sound stupid... but check your torque converter bolts, old mans chev had 2 back off last spring and we swore the motor was about ready to pop! especially since your saying you can't make it tick just sitting, just my .02 :c:

Mine makes the same noisebut I only notice it when the temps outside get cooler .

My 5.9 2007 has the same noise (makes me nervous). This is my first diesel and it sounds like "spark knock" on a gas engine. Mine only does it when on the throttle very lightly. It dosent do it at idle or under hard acceleration. I am at 90K miles and getting 18 MPG so I dont think there could be much wrong.
