03 Auto Taking off in 3rd
 

My 2003 3500 automatic almost always wants to take off in 3rd gear. I can manually shift into 1st or 2nd and and it drives fine with no signs of slipping. My Edge monitor shows the transmission position going through the normal sequence of 1 through 4 but the truck is obviously taking off in 3rd. The edge is also not showing any trouble codes. The fluid level in the transmission looks good and clean. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.:humm:

did you try unplugging the programmer/tuner? try a Reset the apps/tps sensor

That symptom is sually the gov solenoid and\or transdcuer. FYI, the Edge has no way of knowing what gear the turck is in other than 4 when it is in D. It is just reading what the ECU thinks the trans should shift at based on its programming. If the governor solenoid and transducer do not operate correctly it won't shift correctly.

^^^^^ what he said. My 03 was doing the same and it turned out it was the gov. Solenoid.since I was in there I change everything. Including the speed sensor on the of housing. Shift perfect now!:tu:
