G56 Transmission Cooler

From what i have read the real killers of these G56 trannys seem to be flex of the case and heat. I do plan on getting the blast cage/brace in the near future but was more wondering about the heat problem at the moment. I was looking into the PTO cover coolers but have found i can build a tranny cooler with a oil scavenging pump from a turbo kit and lines with a cooler for less. I already have a cooler i can install in my grill and i can get the lines and fittings i need for free so really the expense is the pump off ebay. Just throwing the idea around and seeing some peoples ideas and opinions of what they have or seen on truck.

The Ford 6 speed manuals had a transmission cooler from the factory, I have heard a couple horror stories of people out driving in the brush and the hills and ripping a cooler line off without knowing it and all of the oil leaked out and they toasted their transmission. I'm not sure what you plan on doing with your truck but just keep in mind that that could happen.

^ That story sounds like a freak accident, where most likely the lines were not tucked away like they should have been and one was ripped. Autos have cooler lines too and I have never heard of an instance where their transmission lines got ripped out.

The Ford ZF6 like mentioned above was designed to have a cooler, so it has the fluid flowing that direction specifically for the cooler. The problem is the G56 was not designed with a cooler in mind so getting the fluid to flow will be the challenge. ATS has a Manual Transmission Cooler kit that uses a pump to push the fluid from the transmission through the cooler. I would say that is your best bet. Bad news is, it says it will not work with a G56 right there on the page, maybe you could use this idea and build your own kit, or modify this one to make it work?

Here is a link to the kit I am referring too: ATS Force Cool Manual Transmission Cooler System 310-910-2164

My truck is a hotshot pavement pounder so i shouldn't be to worried about ripping the lines out of the truck. I was thinking about tapping into the pto cover low on one side for the draw into the cooler then on either the same cover or the other side tap a drain into the cover for a return from the cooler. This is the style pump i was thinking of using to flow the system. (New Electric Oil Scavenge Pump for Remote Low Rear Mount Turbo Return Line 12V | eBay). Just seeing if any one has made a system DIY style that worked

Or my other option is this http://lazarsmith.com/sitebuilder/im...67-518x489.jpg.
