Got my adjustable boost elbow from dead end customs. I noticed that there is a small hole in the side of the elbow. It vents air into the atmosphere. Is the hole supposed to be there? Wouldn't it be the equivalent of a small boost leak? I wonder too if that would let dust into the Turbo / engine when the truck is shut off. Any insight would be appreciated

Is there a little screw on one end of the elbow?
The other end should be where the hose is put that goes to your waist gate for your turbo, at least it does on mine.
If the screw isn't there it can let dirt into the turbo yes, and it can cause a small boost leak.

 

Yes the little allen adjusting screw is there. but the hole im referring to is on the side of the elbow i guess it called a bleeder hole. im curious what it does. it looks like they just drilled into the body of the elbow until the point of the drill broke through a little bit. Also this is installed in place of the electronic solenoid on the he351 on the truck in my sig. How would be the best way to plug the old outlet that the wastegate reference hose used to go to. right now i just have a rubber vacuum cap on it.

 

Rubber vacuum cap will just blow off undedr pressure. You should put the boost elbow in the existing boost reference line and just unplug the controller and put a fooler in the engine side plug. Put the sid eof the boost fooler with the hole towards the WG actuator. The set screw allows boost to bleed off and not open the WG until it gets well over it set point.

 

That would have been a good idea if i hadn't put the controller in my lathe at work and cut it apart to see how it worked.

So what there is to work with is a cap i built to screw in the controllers place. then the boost elbow threads into that, then the reference line runs from there to the wastegate.
the fooler is installed where the controller once plugged into, leaving the port where the reference line used to go unused and open. the vacuum plug was tight and has held for a few weeks now, but i'm sure there is a better way to plug it off for good. just unsure what that is

it looks as though the barbed port that exited the turbo under the controller either was threaded in or pressed in. maybe something can be threaded or pressed in its place.

 

If you used the base of the controller and thread the boost elbow in deep enough the port on the port is now blocked. There are 2 passages in the controller to handle the boost. One goes to the port you blocked off and the other gows back to the low pressure side of the compressor for bleed off air. If you get the threads deep enough and I think you have to solder the surface of the controller where th eother port is, your boost source just comes frm the center of the controller base.

I just machined a plug from 1 1/4" stainless hex stock that threads in and is tapped 1/8 NPT in the center.
