2003 cummins stalling at idle????
hi I own a 2003 dodge ram 2500 quad cab long bed. yesterday I cranked up and while idling the truck stalled( by which I mean rpms dropped then the truck came back alive at 15oo rpm to save itself) then picked back up again, I thought nothing of it and drove to work and back no problem at all. today no stall this morning, however at about 1 I took it to lunch and it not only hiccuped but died. I cranked it back up died again, did it 3 more times. I know it's not a blown tip on an injector, no black smoke, I drained the separator and it didn't seem to make a difference.
I don't know that much about these trucks and their fueling systems, which (other than a bad TPS) is the only thing I figure that it could be please help. I'm sure this is out there somewhere but couldn't really find a specific problem like mine also (not sure if it's related) but it takes a long time to crank sometimes 2 seconds or so by the way has intake straight pipe exhaust and edge juice with attitude- the earlier generation any help is greatly appreciated |
I would say your lift pump is going out. I have owned 2 different 2003 cummins and both of them did the exact same thing when the lift pump started to fail. I had the same problem with near stall and 2 days later engine quit while driving. Pulled over and restarted fine and later that afternoon died again and would not start. Lift pump fixed my problem. I replaced with a Fass TD08 150g. I wanted the extra filters to protect my injection pump and injectors from dirt/water in the fuel. Good Luck!
