Squeek when turning off

Does everyone truck squeek when turning it off. Sounds like the belts squeeks.

My 03 does the same thing...not sure if its normal or not??

H.R.D 06-28-2013 08:48 PM

Its normal, it is caused by the crank stopping faster than the belts and other belt driven devices. This is true unless it is squeaking while running then you may need a new belt of may have a bearing going out. :c:

Ya my truck does it too, no worries unless it squelling when its running.

Mine does it to and I always wondered the same thing, but only does it when it shuts off so must be ok.

joys of owning a cummins

Kodiak 07-19-2013 09:32 AM

I worried about it when I first bought my truck. Until I heard everyone else's do the same thing.

This is caused by the alternator inertia when the engine stops. There is a TSB that addresses the issue and the fix is installing an over run pulley on the alternator.
