Off road lights in fog light holes?
 

I just bought an 06 mega cab manual to replace my 01 that blew it's 4th 47 re. The 06 didn't come with fog lights so it has those plastic inserts. Looking at the size of the holes it looks like I could install a set of 6" off road lights there. Has any done this? If so did you run into any complications?

If they fit It should be a straight forward installation.

They should bolt right in. You'll have to do some custom wiring to get them to work. make sure you use a relay for this and the proper fuse. BTW I obtained a piece of plexiglass and made a couple of covers to fit just inside the "light holes". They protect the aux. lights from road debris and rocks. Im on my third pair of lights since I bought my truck, due to kicked up rocks and crap on the road. Now I just make and replace the covers when they need replacing.

Actually the stuff I have is called "Lexan". It is about 1/8" thick. It was given to me almost 10 years ago. I rec'd two 3' x3' sheets of it. I just kept it around thinking I might need it someday. Now its got a purpose. Only thing is it scratches easily and you have to clean them carefully, but, no more broken aux lights. Ive seen Plexiglass at Home Depot in different thicknesses FYI.

Im not sure if Lexan and plexiglass are the same thing. I never researched that. Guess its never too late.

Lexan is in the plexiglass family but I have always heard of it used in bullet resistant applications.

If done right, they actually look pretty cool....and serve a new purpose.

Would you like a direct replacement fog light?
