05' white smoke and rough idle!

Hey guys, I have not drove my truck in 3 days but normally daily drive it and it has no issues of any kind. I went to start it up to pull it into the shop to install some new HID headlights and it fired up just fine. Then I got the lights installed I went to start it to pull it out of the shop and now it idles rough and blows lots of white smoke. If I give it a little throttle it clears up the smoke. I did nothing but install the HIDs and they are a plug and play to the factory harness. No cutting or anything funky. Baldwin fuel filter was changed about 2k miles ago along with the oil. I drained water in fuel bowl and tried again and it still smokes and idles rough. No check engine light either. Help please, I really needed this truck this weekend.

Yes it is odd, I went out last night and drained more out of the fuel bowl and started it up... it puffed a little smoke then as it idled more it cleared up and ran fine for a few min. Then I took it for a drive and all was normal. I parked it last night and then fired it up this morning and drove to work. All is normal as far as I can tell. Im going to take it to a nice diesel shop here in town after this long weekend to see if they can help me figure out why it did this.

This truck has 138k on the clock and is all stock with only a replaced #4 injector line. It really has been a great truck so it almost made me cry when I seen her smoken like that. I fear injectors are in my future even tho I pray every night to the cummins gods.

hopefully it won't need anything major.

Better prep your virgin sacrifice! The cummins gods are calling! That is a sure sign of a hung open injector or a bad leak somewhere drawing air. I would start looking for injectors and then don't forget the 2 micron filter pre CP3! Be sure to scope the cylinders when the injectors are out melted pistons are a side effect hidden well by the gods!

I just got of the phone with the local shop I trust with the truck, they have a very good rep and turn out some really nice work. He also confirmed my fear of injectors so it looks like I will be the virgin that gets sacrificed. I want them to check valve clearances and they are doing an airdog also.

I guess now that I am in the mood to spend some cash... is there anything else I should have them do while they are in there?

Also, I am having a mental war on injector size. Stock or 60hp? I am in no way a power junky and really like a nice reliable stock rig but if the benifits outway the risk or if there is no risk then I dont see why not on the 60s. Im concerned about EGTs when towing, will the stock turbo keep up, will the CP3 keep up? I have no tuner and its a 6 speed, 4" AFE exhaust, and AFE full intake, no other mods. I also want the best mpg I can get.
