Common rail advice

I'm lookin into gettin a newer truck and decidin between a 6.7 and a common rail.
Is there any emission regulation crap in common rails or no? If so what are they and can they be torn off. And also what would be best mods to get besides intake and lift pump? I'm not too familiar with common rails so figured I'd ask around before gettin one.
Thanks for any advice,
Cody:c:

All dodge cummins motors from 03 to now have the common rail. It is refering to the fuel rail on the motor. The fuel rail can't be removed. And there is no emmisions tied in with the fuel rail.
As for mods, you can do the same mods as the older motors, air filter, air intake, exhaust, and fuel system upgrades.

I wasn't sure if 03-07 had egr coolers or not and any specific mods to start off with for a 5.9 cr

03-06 I believe are non emissions motors. No dpf, no egr or that crap. Check for blow by,check fluids see how they look, smell etc.

No egr or egr coolers. (thats a good thing) To start off your mods, go with exhaust mods, then intake (CAI kit) then better flowing intake elbow/manifold. Its important to free up the exhaust and intake to make it breathe better. Then your choice of programmers(most popular is Smarty/ smarty jr.) If Auto, think about trans mods (will be weak link at this point). It manual trans, clutch will be weak point.

Actually I believe the 04.5+ have an internal egr.. via cam shaft. It opens the exhaust vavles to a certain depth so not all the exhaust exits which in return double burns... Kind of like the acert cats... The twin turbo setup it gradually reburns the exhaust.. and it has a cat under it.. but new exhaust can fix that... The internal egr you'll have to get a new cam... But other then that no external egr, or any other bs that doesnt need to be on there

Get an 06/07 5.9.

Get an Edge CTS Insight for gauges.

Get Efi Live for tuning.

Call it a day.
