I have been a member here for a while but never posted. the site I used to go to for technical help has run everybody off that knows anything. Im at a loss at what to do on my 06 dodge cummins. long story short I dusted the engine and rebuilt it over the last three months. I also succeeded in cooking my ecm by hooking the ground wire that connects to the battery to the positive. I purchased a used ecm and installed it everything is great the truck starts the throttle works but I cant read codes on it or get my smarty to hook up. I got a recovery file from the guys at smarty but all All I get is a code 14 error. also the code reader I picked up gets a no communication error. On pin 16 on the obd port I have voltage, on 4 and 5 are grounded I cant find a wiring diagram to check the other wires what they are supposed to do I have talked to the guys at smarty but they have no idea on what to try next. the truck has new batterys, the grounds to the engine body and ecm have been sanded and hooked up 4 or 5 times. I dont know where to go from here. someone told me to wire in a new obd port off of the ecm but I cant get that diagram either, any help would be great Im pulling my hair out over this thing. most stuff I can figure out electrical I suck at

 

Go to the dealer. Chances are they need to do a reflash on the new ecm. Only they starscan can do it.
