Lift Pump, Engine Codes: P0628 and P2509

2003 Dodge w/ Cummins died and would not restart. Original engine code was P0628. Also visually checked flow out of the filter housing. Some flow was present, but seemed lacking. Replaced original lift pump with mopar in-tank conversion kit, followed all install steps with exception to the memory flash. Lift pump clearly works, cycles as should when turning switch to on position and bumping ingition switch. Also visually checked flow out of filter housing to see noticeable flow improvement. Engine will now start, but will only run for 5 seconds or less. Getting engine codes P0628 and P2509. Measured electrical out put from the ECM to pump connector and getting 8VDC across two pins. Suggestions, would be much appreciated?

did you clear codes after repair? Clear them and see which one is resetting after running engine.

Lift Pump

Just erased codes. Attempted to restart a few times. Same result, runs 5 seconds or less then dies. Engine light in the dash stays on, but neither the OBD scanner nor the on board code reader will pick up any codes now.

How old are the batteries?

Solution

For those potentially facing similar problems....Truck runs. Turns out the lift pump replacement fixed the original problem. but introduced air into the system during the change. Thankyou to the thought provoking question from MillerDieselBoyz on clearing the codes. Once the codes cleared and no new codes reported, started looking beyond the lift pump for a reason why truck wasn't running. Cracked an injector line which relieved some air and truck immediately fired up and ran like it should. Learned on this project this system doesn't always self prime.
