Gear Cover Bolt
Hey, I'm in a crunch. Long story short I took the truck in to have a leaking front crank seal replaced. After 7 days I've got it back, but it's missing a gear cover bolt... Is this a bolt I can find at lowes, or am I going to be going back to the mechanic again to get the replacement bolt? I'm headed on a 12 hour road trip pulling a small trailer saturday and would like this thing to be road worthy. Will I have issues without the bolt? It appears the rest of the bolts are intact. This crank seal has been a huge fiasco and I've about given up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!:argh:

You can get metric bolts at tractor supply also I'd be taking a good look at who I have doing my mechanical work, especially since it's a couple hour job. :c:

Make sure there isnt a burr on the crank where the seal rides that is chewing them up. My guess is shotty mechanic work though.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to see if the cummins place has the bolts tomorrow so that I can get the gear cover secured. Guess I learned my lesson. I don't usually let people work on the truck, do it myself, but after a round of front end replacement it was wearing on me. Actually picked the truck up yesterday but it still leaked when I picked it up so I took it back over. Worse part for me is it was barely leaking when the seal went out to begin with, now the bottom of the truck is speckled with oil, and there was a drop in the driveway before I cut it off tonight. Guess I'll try to limp it up to Indiana and replace it myself when I get back...

Double check that it isnt your pan or gear housing leaking as well.
