High egt's and coolant temps

I'm having issues with high egt's. Im running TNT-r 180hp industrial injectors and the bd r850 twins. At 72lbs of boost I'm still hitting 1600egts. The engine temps will get up to 215 or so, going off the stock gauge.
Smarty is on 7 rp2 tq1 Do I need a bigger turbo?

My truck is 7200lbs on 37s and a built auto

Holy $h!t, 72 lbs of boost, it seems like when you're making enough exhaust to produce 72 lbs egt would be high. What's it running at cruising speeds?

slightlymodded 03-01-2013 09:46 PM

Egt's cruising never get over 1200. Barly hit 1100 that's on a pretty good incline.
Why is 72 a lot with twins?

YES Yes it is! Cruising should not be over 800! That's going up hill!! I think your dumping to much fuel! Twins make the temps go down not up! Do you have an intercooler upgrade? You need to go EFI or Smarty UDC! Since you have the smarty tuning with UDC is a simple upgrade and learning how or have someone remote tune for you! Wonder what your milage is? 300 miles per tank sounds about right!

Egt's 8 to 900 at 75 to 80 if I hit a big hill they may climb to 1000
72lbs is at wot. Just crusing is about 5-15 psi. The egt's are good unless its wot. And they don't climb until the converter locks in OD I can hit a hill and roll on the throttle and they may hit 1100. I'm not so concerned about egt's as much as I am the engine temp.
A bone stock 04.5 can hit 1450 on egts gettin on the highway unloaded i know I need more tuning I've only been at it for a week. These twins are supposed to be good for 850-1000hp I'm not even close to 800 I'm not even sure I'm at 700 I'm taking it to the dyno later this week to get some base line numbers

72 psi is a lot of boost no matter how many turbos you got. If you think about it, you're making enough exhaust to produce 72 psi. More exhaust the hotter it is going to be. My dad's duramax with the edge runs 20 psi max I think, and only 1-2 when cruising 70 mph @ about 550 egts. Turbos help with cooler egts, but the more psi you run the hotter its going to get, other wise every diesel would be running 50 psi stock to keep down egts.

On a different note, how loud is the whistle at 72 psi.

Whistle is not that bad Its worse at 10psi

And it doesn't roll coal. It cleans up quick and nice.

It's all about tuning! Get rid of the stack and tune with UDC or EFI

I'm only running the TNT for now As far as I know there are only a couple shops with the Efi for 03-05 trucks
