Ok
If i choose the smarty do i go with the junior or the next one up and if i do do i need to get gauges with it and what gauges do i need to get.
Or is there something out there for my stock 5.9 24v
I'm a virgin to diesel trucks so dumb it down for me please

Thanks Dennis

The smarty jr is supposed to NOT need gauges, anything above that in the smarty line is recommended. I would get gauges either way just for your safety and satisfaction. If you have a auto I would personally go with a fuel (rail pressure) a egt for exhaust monitoring a trans temp and or boost for tubo psi. You could also go with a EDGE monitor only which would have all of the above on a electronic display its your preference. Hope this helps you in your decisions im sure some of the other guys will chime in also.

smarty jr is a good tuner. :tu:

EFI Live is the best way to go for an 06 and up. Much more refined than a smarty.

What makes the efi live so much better than a smarty anarchydiesel? I am also in the market for a tuner and am wanting to go with the best possibility.

Even if the level of tuning was the same, EFI Live is a better option due to the scan tool and data logging capabilities that come with both the V2 and the autocal. You can literally monitor any sensor on the truck and see how it is performing and if there is a possible problem. The thing to remember about EFI Live is that the tunes are only as good as the person writing them. If you purchase from a reputable tuner the truck should run much smoother and cleaner than with a smarty, not to mention more power. With the smarty you have a few choices on how to set timing and rail pressure, but you still do not know what you are really adjusting. With EFI duration, timing, rail pressure, etc. are infinitely adjustable allowing the truck to be dialed in to your exact driving style and mods (or lack of).

i dont disagree that efi is a good way but for the normal guy smarty is a good way. :hellox:

The smarty does what it says, but an autocal from a reputable tuner can be had for less than a smarty. In the end it is all personal preference and up to the OP.

Im a first time smarty owner, and thus far I couldn't be happier. Wish the EFI was available for my 03, I've heard nothing but good things and would like to try it, but for now the smarty S-06 is gettin it done and I would suggest it to anyone on the market for a tuner for CR trucks.

Thanks guys lots to think about.

curious about actual changes the smarty made on your 03. What did it cost you?....What exact improvements can you identify?... I have an 03 and have been thinking what to get...Appreciate your personal experience.....

The Spade or Autocal's with EFI Live are hands down the best tuning for the 06-09 5.9 and 6.7 cummins. They do not need a V@ or the software to use a spade. So it makes it way easier and economical. They are just as simple to install as a smarty and the efi as stated above is a way more refined tuning that runs cooler, cleaner, you have a selection of almost unlimited tunes at your disposal, will soon be adjustable on the fly with csp tuning.

I had a superchips on before I bought the smarty. And the differences between the 2 are very clear. The superchips was not bad at all, but I got an increase in power, better throttle response and the overall drivability is so much better with the smarty. You have a torque management feature, timing adjustment, or you can run the smarty without a timing change, which is great if you want to stack the smarty with a module or pressure box. And this is just a few ways the smarty allows you to control your truck. On top of all that I gained 2 mpg with the smarty. Paid $685 for it. It's a great overall programmer, and I think you will be very pleased. Hope this helps. :hellox:

Red5.9 01-11-2013 01:36 PM

Which smarty did you buy

That<_>Guy 01-11-2013 04:07 PM

Smarty S-06 PoD

Red5.9 01-11-2013 04:28 PM

How much did u did u pay for and are you happy and did you ad gauges

That<_>Guy 01-11-2013 04:37 PM

I paid $685 for it. And yes im very pleased. After running the smarty I wouldn't run anything else. And yes get gauges for sure. EGT and boost at minimum, but I'd also think about fuel pressure and fuel rail presure as well. I have the Edge insight for my gauges and I like it alot. If you would rather do digital than analog it would definitely be something to look into. :tu:

I have used the Predator with power puck on mine and made decent mileage around 22 mpg. on a 04 2500 4x4. Not sure if your looking for mileage or lots of power. I have heard great things about the S06 smarty too.

wvbagger 03-08-2013 07:54 AM

Smarty jr was easy for me as a first time tuner
