New lift pump-truck won't start if cold
Hi all,
Thanks in advance for any input here.
I'm up in C-c-c-Canada where it's currently colder than a witch's elbow(-20C)
When I got this truck-2010- it would start at -20c even if I forgot to plug it in. It was a beast in cold weather.
In October I was on the hiway and everyhing just died. They installed a new lift pump and it was fine.
But then when it dropped below freezing it would crank like mad, though it would wane after 30 seconds of off and on cranking, but no start. My mechanic said the batteries were shot, and the lift pump tested far below spec as far as pressure while cranking, so I replaced both batteries, and it worked fine to -8c. With the new batteries he said it was now putting out the right amount of pressure.
Now it's -20. The truck has been plugged in all day. It cranks like mad but still won't fire at all. When I first turn the key on I do hear that faint buzzing sound that I'm told is the lift pump working. It almost seems to me to be quieter than usual, but its there.
Any ideas on what we should be checking for next?
Could that new lift pimp be defective?
Thanks for any insights,
And merry Christmas
Keith

Check your fuel filters, and bump start your truck and see if it pushes any fuel if it does find a wrench and open up the injection lines 1,3,4 and bump it till you have fuel and close them off and try to start the truck. Its cold to and if you diesel is not winterized your gonna have hell in C-c-c-c-ca-canada. From a guy in C-c-c-c-c-c-c-Coloradoooooo...

well i am in fairbanks ak a little colder than you we drop to -50f quite often here and my truck is fully winterized battery heater on both baterrys block heater oil pan heater trans mission heater and synthetic oil in everything i dont know what you consider winterized but you may have to step up a little more on it and then add some type of anti gel i use howes and havent had a problem yet never know if you have to changethe lift pump i would upgrade to a fass or airdogg to help you with filteration and push more fuel to the cp3 good luck
