04 Cummins Help

Hey guys, picked up an early 04 3500 Ram a month or so ago and want to know what you guys think the best way to put 450-500 hp and 800+ lb. ft. torque through it. What mods will give me the biggest bang for my buck? Already looking at a Smarty tuner, AFE intake and a new tranny. Oh yeah, I have a 4'' turbo back straight pipe already. Thanks!

Well I can tell you what i'd do, I plan on building my trans up before really making any major mods. But I would upgrade to a fass or airdog 150 just so the fuel supply is there plus it'll give you better mileage nothing substantial. Then id get an intake AFE is good looking at gettin one myself... 4" is okay for that level any higher and i would go bigger exhaust but next I plan on getting a programmer... mind you.. you can do this in whatever order you want getting any of these before the other really isnt gonna ruin anything from what i read a smarty wont ruin your stock truck even on the highest setting... after that i plan on looking at some different injectors and head studs that kind of thing but something i would invest in prior to the upgrades is definitely get some gauges particularly boost, pyrometer, trans temp ... just to make sure your not going beyond your limitations as far as boost, egts, and makin sure your keeping your tranny as good as you can... it can get costly... with just a smarty you can get up to 200 hp thats already over 500 everything else is just assurance measures.

Awesome thanks a bunch! Yeah, gonna have a shop do the tranny bullet proof then go from there

yeah might as well way i see it, tranny gonna need to be beefed up at some point and its also pretty much the most expensive thing to replace so might as well take the precationary measures so your not all modded out and then the tranny goes that wouldnt be any fun :nope:

Contact GOEREND Transmissions though for building your tranny I recommend them they are definitely reasonable with prices and they make quality products and offer warranties at an affordable cost. And from what I hear from the people that have used any of their tranny upgrade parts their more then pleased.
