Fan Clutch on a 2004.5
 

My buddy has a 2003 2500 Cummins and I noticed that his fan clutch didnt engage when his truck was cold like at all and on my 04 the fan clutch is wound tight and shes spinning the second I start it up... I heard somewhere that this can cause the warm up cycle on the truck to take alot longer if the fans sucking air from the start... but I dont know what I would need to replace if that is a problem? Any advice? Thanks.

Does your fan cycle ever? Do you start your truck with the a/c on?

Any codes? Any sign of oil leakage from the clutch assembly? Check the wire connections to your fan clutch. :humm: Thinkng..........

The fan never actually cycles, and no I dont start it with a/c on. From a cold start its running already and there isnt any leakage or codes.. where are the wires though?

If your truck is anything like mine, and I have an 06 CTD, there should be a wiring harness under the fan shroud, at the bottom. There should be an easy accessible connector. Check and make sure its intact, clean the contacts, and make sure the wires arent chaffed or shorted or cut etc... You can actually follow the wires up behind the radiator and right to the front of the fan clutch. The computer controls when the fan clutch engages and dis-engages. I am assuming, at this point, that there is a wiring harness on your truck, being an 04.5. Just tossing it out there......:c:

A/C low on freon will keep the fan engaged, but if you don't have it on when you start then... probably time for a new clutch, sure will give you some noticeable power when you get that fixed.

A Flexalite PN: 264 works great!Even towing I've had no issues!

Alright ill look into seeing if its the wiring first but if its not ill definitely have to look into getting a different one. Thanks guys.
