blew my engine...what to do?

I just bought my 2006 dodge mega cab a little over two months ago, just the other day drove it ten miles to unload somethings for my wife. then i started it back up drove it about 1/2 mile while i was accelerating blew the number 2 piston, bent a rod, 4 valves are stuck, and injector is bad :argh: . Took it to the diesel shop in town which happened to be just across the highway from where my truck blew its engine. They told me to just put in a new engine. I found a place that will put in a reman. with everything new on it along with new head studs and rods for $14,500 installed. Is this a good price? Don't know much about a reman. engine either. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

There's a nice 06 engine on ebay for 6k snatch it up and put it in! If you were closer I would put it in! 14,500 is a joke! you can buy an 06 for that THE WHOLE TRUCK!

And it has no warranty just two months ago?!

BAM5.9 08-22-2012 10:24 PM

I didnt get the extended warranty... i know dumb on my part. been screwed over in the past by them. should have got it.

Most dealers have at least a three month 3000 mile warranty? A tail light warranty is real shady!

Get a lawyer Lemon law there?

It's a 6year old truck. By no means would that be covered by lemon law.

To the op, I would look for a used engine. But for a complete crate cr Motor with install, that sounds about right. Because you wont have a core motor, so thats where the extra money comes from.

id say to look around for awhile i can get new replacment engines for a CR for like 3600$ but i dont know what all that includes. pm me if u want this places number.

do you know what caused it to blow the #2?

BAM5.9 09-02-2012 03:39 PM

Injector went bad. The shop said there wasnt any reason to tear down any further. The reman. engine i found that was 14,500 is the final price with everything new and a edge insight monitor, mbrp turboback exhaust, arp head studs, 12 valve rods. and i will have a warranty.

You going to part out the old engine?

I guess that depends on your state, in NY any vehicle with under 100K that sold for 1500 or more is covered by lemon law. :c:

Full rebuilts can be had cheaper....hell I think industrial injection sells performance motors with warranty for that price.

1AMatt 09-06-2012 10:45 AM

Rebuilding would prob be cheaper, but just buying a new/used engine would be easier and you could prob just do it in your driveway or garage! Either way... That really sucks man :ouch:

You can always buy one off ebay or craigslist!

Farmboy 2.0 12-06-2012 11:19 AM

Did it break the block or can your bore it our or put a sleeve in the bad hole? You can buy a IIS Stock Engine with stock head, studs, coated pistions, and balanced rotating assembly for $9600 + 2500 + shipping. But thats no turbo, cp3, or injectors.
