01 Cam gear question

Hey everyone I scored an industrial 24v engine (99 year) I picked up an 01 manual ECM and harness. I am having problems with my cam sensor i read that the 01/02 cam has many notches in it to give the Ecm timing position. I know i have to change the cam gear, but my question is do i have to change the timing cover also or just the cam gear? (The block is a 99 and the ECM and harness is an 01). The one to the left is an 01/02 cam gear and the left is the 98.5- 2000.

I don't think the timing cover needs to changed, I can't see why it would.

Alright cool thx ryan, I'll give Cummins both ESN #'s and make sure they dont have different part numbers that dont coincide. I am bummed because it has been kicking my ass in the thinking department before i found out the difference in Cam gears by a comment someone made in a P-pump conversion thread. I'm pretty stoked to because it gives me the opportunity to throw in a Hamilton Cam in there.
